A successful start to the regatta season

Sudbury juniors at Dorney Lake for Ball Cup South.

Sudbury Rowing Club has had a successful few weeks with wins at Marlow Regatta, Shrewsbury Regatta and the Ball Cup Junior Regatta.

Two adaptive rowers from Sudbury Rowing Club travelled to Marlow to compete in the town regatta. Luke Payne had his work cut out when his opposition was given over a minute advantage over the 650m course which he was unable to make up.

Valerie Ingham-Boor made her debut in regatta racing having a very successful day and achieving her first win.

Amelia Moule travelled to Nottingham to compete at the BUCS Regatta rowing for Bath University. The race was over 2000m and was a multi-Lane course. Amelia competed in the women's intermediate lightweight single sculls event and was one of 24 in the category, the fastest 12 scullers in the time trial would progress to the semi finals. Amelia finished 7th and went on to race well in the semi final securing a place in the B final where she showed her strength and determination to finish first.

Byron and Martha Bullen and Amelia Moule travelled to Shrewsbury Regatta to compete over the 950m course in stunning surroundings. Byron Competed in the men's single sculls event, narrowly missing out on success in the semi final. Amelia Moule and Martha Bullen competed in the women's double sculls event and beat their opposition in the final to win the event.

The Junior Ball Cup event was held at the Olympic 2012 venue, Dorney Lake and was raced over a distance of 750m. Harry Moule and Raph Franke raced in the J18 double sculls event finishing 2nd in the semi final securing them a place in the final. The newly-formed crew achieved third in the final winning a bronze medal.

Harry then raced up a year to compete against his teammate Raph in the men's J18 single sculls event. Harry led from the start managing to hold the lead to cross the line in gold medal position and Raph had a very exciting race going from fourth position at the halfway mark, overtaking two scullers to finish in silver medal position.

Other crews racing were Jess Wilby who raced in the women's J17 single sculls event, gaining a place in the final and just missing out on a medal position. Eloise Bozwood-Davies Had her debut race. Also competing in this event but despite rowing well, failed to progress to the final. The girls also raced together in J17 double scull event making the final and finishing fifth overall.

In their first regatta, The J15 coxed quad of Dhanajay Senthil, Rory Fildes, Oli Lunn, Max Johns and Bertie Kerry (cox) got through to the final and raced really well to finish fourth. They also raced in two doubles and had some very useful racing experience.

Sudbury RC has started the regatta season well and will continue to race throughout the summer.
